Emigrantica: Korostelev Readings 2025
On April 16–17, 2025, the A.M. Gorky Institute of World Literature hosted the international academic conference “Emigrantica: Korostelev Readings — 2025. In Memory of Michela Venditti.”
The conference continues the biennial series launched in 2021 dedicated to the study of emigration, in memory of the prominent historian and literary scholar Oleg Anatolyevich Korostelev (1959–2020). This year’s conference is dedicated to the memory of the renowned Italian Slavist and professor at the University of Naples, Michela Venditti, who passed away unexpectedly in 2024.
The conference brought together experts from Austria, Germany, Israel, Italy, China, Poland, Russia, Serbia, France, and the Czech Republic.
The 2025 conference addressed the following topics:

Emigrant studies as an emerging academic discipline: theoretical issues;

Typology of European migrations and emigrations (from antiquity to the 20th century);

The three waves of Russian emigration: mutual influences and interactions;

Literature of emigration and literature of the metropolis;

Genres of émigré literature;

Emigrant diaries as a phenomenon of documentary prose;

Personae: the life and work of individual émigré figures;

Women in Russian emigration: creativity, social engagement, life mission;

Challenges in publishing the legacy of Russian émigré writers;

Source studies and bibliography of Russian émigré literature.

Round Table "Shmeleviana: Continuation"
On February 21, 2025, at 5:00 PM, we invite you to participate in the round table "Shmeleviana: Continuation." The next meeting of Shmelev scholars will take place on the occasion of the publication of two new editions, which will be presented during the proceedings. These are: the first volume of the series I.S. Shmelev. Materials and Studies and the two-volume anthology I.S. Shmelev: Pro et Contra.
Program of the round table:

Tatiana Vyacheslavovna Marchenko (DRZ) will talk about the work on the new edition, the interesting discoveries made, and the difficulties faced by the authors and editors of the volume;

Aleksei Markovich Lyubomudrov (IRLI RAN) will present his anthology I.S. Shmelev: Pro et Contra, discussing its structure and publication principles;
-
Svetlana Vsevolodovna Sheshunova (Dubna State University) will talk about the influence of foreign prose on the writer’s works;
-
Anastasia Nikolaevna Grebneva (I.S. Shmelev Writer’s Museum in Alushta) will analyze five letters from S.N. Sergeyev-Tsensky to I.S. Shmelev (from the DRZ archive);

Alexander Sergeevich Kapustkin (Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve) will share new discoveries, showing autographs of I.S. Shmelev and artifacts related to the writer;

Irina Vladimirovna Chikina (MOO "Union of Guides") will traditionally explain Shmelev's toponymy in Moscow.
Two other new editions related to the work of Ivan Shmelev will be presented by:

Dmitry Dmitrievich Nikolaev (IMLI RAN) will introduce his monograph From Blok to Shmelev: Russian Writers in the Mirror of Emigration Criticism and Journalism (M.: MAKs Press, 2024. 340 pages);

Elena Anatolyevna Osminina (MGLU) will discuss her work on the most comprehensive collection of W.A. Nikiforov-Volgin's works — the one-volume Ancient City: Stories, Novels (compilation, introduction, text preparation, and comments by E.A. Osminina. M.: Russian Path; Vikmo-M, 2024. 600 pages).
The round table will involve the authors of both editions, specialists in 20th-century Russian literature and Russian emigration, researchers, archivists, textologists, and bibliographers. Presentations will address the results and issues of Shmelev studies, and outline future publishing and research perspectives. The main theme will be commentary — on the writer's literary works and archival materials.

Seminar on Marina Cvetayeva
On January 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM, a scientific seminar dedicated to Marina Tsvetaeva, titled "Theatrical Works of Marina Tsvetaeva: European Myths and Translation Challenges", will take place at the Diderot Library in Lyon. The seminar will be broadcast via the Zoom platform. Presentations will be delivered in French, but participation in the discussion is also possible in Russian. An exhibition was held in conjunction with the last seminar and is being held at the Bibliothèque Diderot in Lyon, which is partnering with the University of Lyon 3 in organising the seminar. The Exhibition about Nadezhda Teffi
We are delighted to announce the opportunity to visit the online virtual exhibition "The Only Lady of Literary Paris" (Through the Pages of Illustrated Russia), which unveils little-known aspects of the life and work of the famous Russian émigré, Nadezhda Teffi. The exhibition was organized on the initiative of the Avangard School-Studio in Lyon, based on the monograph "Fashion in the Life and Work of Teffi" (Olsztyn: University of Warmia and Mazury Publishing House, 2024).
The concept of this project is founded on the belief that Teffi's creative personality left a vivid mark on the history of Russian culture. Meanwhile, the weekly literary and artistic journal Illustrated Russia (La Russie Illustrée in French), published in Paris from 1924 to 1939, serves as a unique chronicle of the cultural life of "Russian Paris" and an important source of knowledge about the daily lives of Russian émigrés. Therefore, this exhibition presents fascinating material that can be effectively used in the educational process and in working with pupils and students.
