THE COMMISSION OF SLAVIC EMIGRATION
OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF SLAVISTS (ICS)
The Commission was founded in December 2008 on the Professor Lucjan Suchanek' s initiative as a part of the Slavic Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The function of the chairman is served by prof. zw. dr hab. Lucjan Suchanek.
The first session of the Commission was held in Opole on 23 September 2009. During this meeting the program of planned activities was presented. One of the most important aims was to develop a full bibliography of works, performed by members of the Commission, which concern the period of the Russian emigration.
The Commission of Slavic Emigration was a Polish committe for six years. On May 29, 2013, prof. L. Suchanek turned to Professor Stanislav Haide, the Chair of the International Committe of Slavists, with the suggestion to include The Commission of Slavic Emigration in the International Committe of Slavists.
In September 2013, at the 15th International Congress of Slavists in Minsk, the Commission has been joined the Committee of the International Congress of Slavists (as one of 39), and L. Suchanek became its chairman. Since then, the Commission of Slavic Emigration has gained an international recognition. The process of including candidates from other countries has begun.
The members of the Commission of Slavic Emigration come from 11 countries. Their scientific interests concern various aspects of the Slavic emigration, so that their research has an interdisciplinary character.
